ALICE HANEWALD, 88, of Hazen, passed away on February 26, 2017, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Thursday, March 2, 2017, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Kirk Peters officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Alice was born on the home farm north of Stanton on December 26, 1928, the eighth of eight children of Henry and Dorthea (Numm) Stiefel.  She was baptized into Christ on February 9, 1929 and confirmed on June 28, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church, north of Stanton.  Alice graduated from Hazen High School in 1947.  On September 11, 1952, Alice married Stan Hanewald and the couple was married for 65 great years. They established and owned Hanewald’s Furniture until retiring after 43 years in 1997. Alice and Stan were members at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Hazen.

Alice is survived by her husband, Stan of Hazen; one sister, Marilyn Stiefel of California; two nephews, Jim Stiefel and Herb Stiefel, both of California; two nieces, Sandy Lang and Judy Zhorela, both of Bismarck, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters, Dorothy, Herb, Edgar, Dumond, Avila and Albin.

Memorials are preferred to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Big Print Work Center.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
