ARTHUR BOECKEL, 99, of Beulah, passed away on April 5, 2017, at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah.  Services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT, Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Prairie View Church of God, Beulah with Pastor Daniel Sansot officiating.  Burial will follow in the Beulah City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Art was born on March 3, 1918, in Mercer County to Ludwig and Dorothy (Morast) Boeckel.  He grew up on a farm north of Beulah with six brothers and four sisters.  He married Pauline Pischel on March 30, 1938 and they farmed seven miles North of Beulah.  In 1944, they moved to a farm five miles North of Beulah.  In 1965, they moved to a farm southwest of Zap, and in 1974 built a new home and moved to Beulah.  They enjoyed traveling, car trips, bus tours, including a Bible Land trip to Israel and Egypt. They were married 59 years when Pauline died in 1997.

Art enjoyed farming and ranching, loved his wife and family, but most of all he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He was a member of the Prairie view Church of God.  He served in leadership and helped build two different church structures at two locations in Beulah and various missionary projects in ND.

Art and his brothers were very mischievous and competitive.   As youngsters, they enjoyed racing their horses and later racing their cars.  Now Art says “How foolish, we could have been killed!”

In the 1930’s, life was difficult and crops were scarce.  After harvest Art would go to Montana to work in the sugar beet fields.  Two winters he worked in the underground Lucky Strike Mine south of Zap, making 25 cents an hour.  After marriage he turned to farming and ranching and received several awards for his Angus cattle.

He is survived by one daughter, Rosella (Clarence) Sayler of Zap, ND; one son, Don (Carol Jose) Boeckel of Beulah, ND; five grandchildren; 14 great-grand-children; and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Polly Boeckel Shetler of Filer, Idaho; as well as many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline; one son, Duane, and one great grandchild, Chauncey Michael Sayler; all of his siblings, Albert (Bertha), Herman (Elizabeth), David (Sophia), Ervin (Bertha), Herbert (Sylvia); sisters, Martha (Herbert) Buechler, Evelyn (Theophil) Miller, Rose (Andrew) Wolf, Esther (Valentine) Weiand.  He was the last of the Ludwig Boeckel Family.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Hazen Hospice or Knife River Care center van fund.
