Daniel H. Neurohr, 65, of Dodge, ND died January 8, 2017 at his home. Services will be held at 10:00 AM MST/11:00 AM CST on Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Halliday, ND with Msgr. James Shea officiating. Burial will follow at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery, south of Dodge.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM CST on Thursday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah with a vigil service at 7:00 PM.

Daniel was born on June 15, 1951, the fifth of seven children born to Matt and Shirley (Helsper) Neurohr. Daniel, “Tinker” as his family called him, was raised and educated in Dodge. He later attended college at Dickinson State College. On May 26, 1973, he married his beloved sweetheart of 43 years, Charlotte Swenson. Dan and Charlotte briefly resided in Dickinson before moving to the original homestead of Matt Neurohr, outside of Dodge. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Christina, in November 1982, who was the light of Dan’s life Dan farmed with his dad, eventually working for 37 years in the coal mining industry between Indian Head Mine, Zap and retiring from Dakota Westmoreland, Beulah in 2016.

Dan was very active in his church and community. He was part of the United Mine Workers, serving as a union leader for many years, President of the Dodge School Board, Dunn County Landowners, Dakota Resource Council, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, an Elks member and a devoted Democrat. He loved to argue politics and his point of view, always staying on top of current events by reading the newspaper and watching the news. Family was always very important and loved visiting and surrounding himself with them especially during the holidays when they would often host the celebrations.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Dodge; one daughter, Christina (Chan) Opp of Mandan, ND; two grandchildren, Collin and Addisyn; four sisters, Nancy (Jack) Kiburz of Punta Gorda, FL, Bonny “Butch” Fall of Rayne, LA, Betsy (Roger) Sattler of Minot, ND, and Rachel Neurohr of Cathedral City, CA; three brothers-in-law, David Swenson of Halliday, ND, James (Darlene) Swenson of Beulah, ND and Gerald (Dorothy) Willems of Miles City, MT; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Swenson of Minot and Julie (Wayne) Rowe of Goodlands, Manitoba; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sharon Willems; his brother, Fritz Neurohr; one brother-in-law, Ralph Fall; and one sister-in-law, Ellen Swenson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to SMC Hospice, Hazen, ND.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
