Donald Kuch

August 13, 1930 ~ October 4, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Donald Kuch, 86, of Beulah, ND died peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah with Pastor Mary Lou Aune officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, October 10 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Donald was born on August 13, 1930, the oldest of three children born to George and Martha (Nei) Kuch. He was raised and educated in the Zap and Beulah area where he graduated from Beulah High School in 1949. He entered the U.S. Army and was a proud and celebrated veteran of the Korean War. He was awarded a commendation for meritorious service during his time spent in Korea. After returning home, he married his loving and caring wife of 60 years, Margaret Aanderud at Zion Lutheran Church on July 14, 1956. Together they were blessed with three children, Jeff, Sandi and Greg, whom they raised in Beulah.

Don enjoyed a long career with the railroad as a telegrapher and depot agent. He later moved into the construction field with Northern Improvement, working as a bookkeeper during the construction of area power plants.

Don was a talented musician who could pick up his licorice stick and jam to the music, playing by ear. He was a proud member of the "Teen Kings", a hot local band in the 1950s. He was also a dedicated man who was very active in many organizations including, Zion Lutheran Church council member, a longtime scoutmaster of Beulah Boy Scout Troop 19, the Beulah Eagles Club, the VFW and the Jaycees.

Don was also an avid Beulah Miner fan who followed the games and track meets in person or on radio. During his later years, Don enjoyed his time at his lake cabin with friends and family. Good conversation, relaxation and a campfire was all he needed.

Don is survived by his wife, Margaret of Beulah; three children, Jeff (Dianne) Kuch and Sandi (Tom) Femling all of Beulah and Greg Kuch of  Wahpeton, ND; three grandchildren, Boe (Dean Jorgensen) Kuch of Mandan, ND, Zachary Femling and Joshua Femling, both of Beulah; one sister, Marlene (Red) Enzminger of Mandan; one step-sister, Norma Hillius of Elgin, ND; one sister-in-law, Doris Kuch of Quartz Hill, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Helen Kuch; one brother, Carroll Kuch; and one grandson, Jeremy Femling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Radio Broadcasting Ministry, which Don faithfully listened to on the Sundays he could not attend church.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
