Dorothy (Alkire) Foss

Dorothy M. (Alkire) Foss, 93, of Hazen, ND passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Friday, March 2, 2018 at English Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Al Beyer officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hazen City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST on Thursday at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen.

Dorothy was born on May 13, 1924 to Earl and Frankie (McBride) Alkire. She grew up on a farm west of Hazen where she attended Antelope Valley School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Hazen High School in 1942. Dorothy was instructed in the doctrine of Christian faith and was baptized at the age of 12 at the Evangelical Church of Hazen. On November 26, 1942, Dorothy married Ellsworth Foss at the Evangelical Church. The couple later joined English Lutheran Church in Hazen. Dorothy and Ellsworth spent 61 years of marriage together.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Larry (Robbin) and Earl (Suzanne), all of North Dakota and Arizona, and Greg (Barb) of Beulah, ND; one daughter, Nylene (Harry) Cohn of Florida; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Velma and Lorraine, and two brothers, Laurance and Albert.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
