Douglas O. Letzring

November 3, 1943 ~ May 6, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Douglas Oscar Letzring, 73, Center ND was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Sanford Health, Bismarck, ND.   Funeral service will held at 10:30 AM CDT, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at St Paul Lutheran Church, Center, with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating.  Burial will follow in the Churchtown Cemetery, south of Center.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, CDT, Tuesday at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.

Doug was born in Bismarck, ND to Oscar and Hilda (Tellman) Letzring.  He grew up on a farm 8 miles south of Center and attended Churchtown Lutheran Church.   Doug graduated from New Salem High School in 1961 and attended BJC.  Doug worked in various lumber yards, Hoovestal Trucking and Loehrke brother’s construction.  As we would travel throughout the tri state area, we often heard “I built this road”.  He then worked for BNI coal until his retirement in 2006.

Doug married the love of his life, Sandra Jacobsen in November of 1966.  In their 50 years of marriage they had three children Jim (Shawnda) Letzring, Darin (Tera) Letzring and Darcee (Jim) Wenning.  They have seven grandchildren, Kyndra (Jess), Lacey, Sierra, Emily, Anna, Paul and Noah) and are “parents or grandparents” to many more.

Doug was very active in the Center Community. He was a member of the Lions Club, was on the Board of Directors of the Oliver County Ambulance, a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a volunteer fireman for many years, and a member of the Central Dakota Amateur Radio club as N0LWY for 30 years.  Doug and Sandy also received a Lifetime Volunteer award from the Center Community Club in 2014.

Doug was passionate about his family and an ardent lover of the arts, especially music.  He loved it when his grandchildren were performing!  Doug was in the Center Community music program “Center Stage” singing & dancing for many years and loved to play his trumpet for the Center Community Band.  In fact, he attended band practice the day before his passing.  Doug and Sandy traveled for years attending their children’s extracurricular events and then followed suit with their grandchildren.

Doug loved to go camping.  We camped in a huge tent that blew down every night and “da bus” for many years before a modern camper was purchased!  Doug loved to travel and learn about the world first hand and go to many Blue Grass music festivals and music jams.  He had a woodshop in his garage and worked on many fantastic projects.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Hilda (Tellman) and three brothers, Oliver, Vernon & Lyle.

Arrangements conducted by Barbot Funeral Homes, Beulah and Hazen.
