Edwin Benson

October 23, 1931 ~ December 9, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old

EDWIN JAMES BENSON, 85, of Twin Buttes, passed away on December 9, 2016, at his home.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Twin Buttes Memorial Hall.  Visitation will be from 12:30 PM CST to 1:30 PM CST at Barbot Funeral Home in Beulah and continue at Edwin’s Home from 2:30 to 4:30 PM CST on Monday.  A wake service will begin at 5:00 PM CST, @ the Twin Buttes Memorial Hall.

Edwin was born to John & Alice (Bear Ghost) Benson in Elbow woods, ND. He grew up and attended school in Elbow woods, until 1953, when the Garrison Dam was built, Edwin, his dad John, and Grandfather, Ben Benson was relocated to what we now know as Twin Buttes.

In 1955, Edwin joined in marriage to Arlene (Reddoor) Benson, through this marriage of 20 years they had 4 daughters.

During their early years of marriage, Edwin worked as a cattle ranch-hand for various ranchers in and around the surrounding areas of Twin Buttes – Halliday –Dodge. This is how he provided for his wife and children.

Then he was employed by the Twin Buttes Road shop, later working for the Twin Buttes Elementary School, as a custodian and bus driver for many years. His final years of employment was also with the Twin Buttes Elementary school as a Native (Mandan) language teacher.

Edwin had received his Honorary Doctorate Degree in 2009, at University of North Dakota. He was known as Dr. Edwin Benson, this was one of proudest moments in his life, which he shared with his daughters.

He is survived by his three daughters, Mary Lynn Eaglestaff, Janet Benson, and Heidi (Miguel) Hernandez. And many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John & Alice (Bear Ghost) Benson, his siblings: Blanche Benson, Louella Benson Young Bear, Phillip Benson, and Viola Benson-Wilson, his grandsons Brian J. Eagle, Marcus Carvallo, daughter; Paulette Long Chase.

Edwin was very much loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Edwin.
