Elsie Schrempf, 105, of Hazen, ND, passed away on August 30, 2017, at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 1:00 PM CDT, Sunday, September 3, 2017, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with Reverend Toby Heller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Elsie was born on September 3, 1911, to Christ and Johanna (Auwinger) Baier in Rhine, ND. She was raised and educated in Oliver County in the Rhine area. Elsie was baptized on January 28, 1912 at Rhine Church and was confirmed on April 1, 1928 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. On May 1, 1938, she married Jacob Schrempf in Rhine. They lived in Zap until 1942. They farmed 15 miles south of Hazen in the Otter Creek area until 1947 when they moved to Hazen. They moved to Minot in 1969 and returned to Hazen in 1978. Jacob died on March 25, 1980. Elsie continued to live in Hazen until she moved to the Knife River Care Center in 2007.

Elsie was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Hazen Senior Citizens. She loved gardening and had a green thumb. She loved to can, cook, bake and housekeeping.
She liked to take pictures and read the newspaper from front to back.

Elsie is survived by two daughters, Eunice (Gerald) Shilts of New Richmond, WI, and Beverly (Timothy) Webb of Baldwinsville, NY; one son Gerald (Monica) Schrempf of Hazen, ND; one son-in-law Ronald Gieser of Garrison; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; one brother Chris Baier of Glendive, MT; one sister-in-law Tina Knoll of Pinehurst, ID; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; her parents; her daughter, Ellen Gieser; two grandchildren, Michelle and Jonnie; two brothers, Prince and Julius; and one sister Hulda Unterseher.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
