Frank Scharosch

June 18, 1924 ~ December 5, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Frank Scharosch, 92, of Hazen, ND died Monday, December 5, 2016 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 4:00 PM CST on Friday, December 9, 2016 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen with Fr. Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah with a vigil service at 7:00 PM.

Frank was born on June 18, 1924 to Nicholas and Eva (Portscheller) Scharosch in St. Paul, MN. He was raised and educated in Richardton, ND until the eighth grade when his father died. He then began farming for a time before working at a gas station in Richardton and Beach, ND. On June 25, 1947, Frank married Helen Schwab in Richardton. Together the couple moved to Hazen where they began farming and continued to grow their family. In 1986, Helen passed away. Frank continued to farm and on November 4, 1995, he married Eleanor Schlender. They moved to Hazen but continued to farm. In 2001, Frank retired from farming and began his woodworking hobby. He moved into the Senior Suites in 2012 and into Knife River Care Center in 2014, where he has since lived.

Frank loved to dance and listen to polka music. He was known for his woodworking projects, as well as working with numerous farmers around Oliver County. He also spent some time working for his daughters at the abstract office. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church.

Frank is survived by his wife Eleanor of Beulah; his children, Francis “Mick” (Debb) Scharosch of Bismarck, Deborah “Deby” (Craig) Smith, of Hazen, Melissa “Lisa” (Michael) Weidner of Beulah, Geriann (friend, Duane) Perkins of Bismarck, and Teri Jo (Todd) Parker of Hazen; 18 grandchildren, Gina, Gerard, David, Stephanie, Jason, Bradley, Nathan, Megan, Ryan, Jackson, Jamie, Kody, Jonathan, Bethany, Justin, Kristin, Travis, and Tyler; 28 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, George Weigel of Kintyre, ND; one brother, Albert (Irene) Scharosch of Cedar Rapids, IA; one sister-in-law, Lena Scharosch of AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; one daughter, Bonnie Weigel; one brother, John; and one sister, Frances Wagenmann.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
