Karen Garrett, 58, of Hazen, passed away in the loving arms of her family Thursday, October 19, 2017, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Monday, October 23, 2017, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen, with Deacon Dan Wallach officiating.  A private family burial will follow at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Karen was born August 15, 1959 to Harvey and Luella (Wagner) Mehlhoff of rural Garrison, ND.  She attended school in Garrison before moving to rural Riverdale, ND.  This is where she met and married the love of her life, John Garrett on August 20, 1976.  They resided in Riverdale, Stanton, and eventually made their final home in Hazen, ND where they owned and operated Garrett Brothers Construction.

Karen is survived by her loving children; Jessica (Jon) Grounds; Center, ND; Shantel Lais; Hazen, ND; Jeremy (Kelsey) Garrett; Stanton, ND.  Grandchildren; Bryanna, Nate, Brayden, Mason, Tayler, Kenny and Jaxson; Ethan, Alyssa, Hayden and Hunter.  She will also be missed by her faithful companion; Sox.

Karen will remain forever in the hearts of her siblings, Linda (Dale), Diane, Carol, Sally, Nancy, Dean (Sherri), and Marlyes.  She also cared deeply for her in-laws, Toni (Bobby), Ken (Marilyn), Tom (Dawn), Tim (Lupe),Tina (Richard), Darrell (Pharada), Jim, Randy (Shawna), and her many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John; her parents, and son-in-law, Thad Lais.
