Randy Van Pelt

August 9, 1948 ~ October 16, 2016 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Randy Gene Van Pelt, 68, of Beulah, died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen, ND.   Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with Pastor Mary Lou Aune officiating.  Burial will follow at Beulah City Cemetery, Beulah, ND.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Randy was born on August 9, 1948, to Elmer and Jean Mary (Kite) Van Pelt, in Keokuk, IA.  He grew up and attended school in Montrose, IA, and graduated from Central Lee High School in 1966.  Following graduation he entered the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Prum, Germany.  Following his time in the service, Randy returned to Iowa, and began working for First Mississippi, before moving to North Dakota in 1983, and working for Dakota Gasification Co. in Beulah.  He was employed with DGC for 29 years and a total of 40 years in the power plant industry.  While employed with DGC, he acquired the nick name, Van Panic or Panic.  Randy married Carey Hilz, on November 14, 1987, at Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah and the couple resided in Beulah their entire married lives.  Along with his new wife, came two daughters, Erica and Brittany, that he loved as his own.  He enjoyed vacationing with his family, traveling to Big Sky, Memphis, Nashville, Lake of the Ozarks, Disneyland, San Diego, Ireland and Belgium, to name a few locations. Randy was a big Pittsburgh Steeler’s and NASCAR fan, attending multiple games and races.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and his dogs.  His grandchildren were his pride and joy, he loved being papa.

Randy is survived by his wife, Carey, of Beulah; his daughters, Erica (Aaron) Petrowitz, of Beulah, and Brittany (Daryl) Zobb of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Austin and Kailynn; one sister, Bonnie (Bennie) Dodson of Montrose, IA; one brother, Marty Van Pelt of Montrose, IA; his parents-in-law, Helen and Doc Hilz of Beulah; one sister-in-law, Carla (Tim Winn) Harildstad; one brother-in-law, Steve (Darlene) Hilz; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Amy Van Pelt, who passed away on July 8, 2016; and one infant brother, Steven.

Randy is deeply and lovingly missed.
