Shirley Anne Webb, 84, from Hazen, died peacefully June 23, 2016 after a diagnosis of lung cancer.  A wake will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 7:00 pm followed by her funeral on Saturday July 2, 2016 at 10:00 am. Both will be at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen, ND. 

Shirley was a strong and innovative trail blazer with an unending sense of adventure.  This led her to becoming an RN at the tender age of 16; and followed her from continent to continent as she practiced nursing in places like Germany, Ethiopia, Alaska, Fort Knox and many other interesting destinations.  All while giving care to 5 children!  Shirley saw her death as the final adventure and she looked forward to it with peace and happiness.

Speaking of giving care, Shirley was the ultimate.  She cared for literally thousands of patients over her long nursing career (I think her favorite was working in the delivery room); and even after she “retired” she loved caring for those in her community; sometimes by helping administer eye drops, helping to change a dressing, or taking a blood pressure or saying a few kind words (usually with a hug).  It was her ministry.

Shirley will be terribly missed by her children (Anna Christine, Rob, Wendy, Paula, and Rick), grandchildren, nieces, nephews, CD Lori, and her church family and friends.  We are sure she will be happy to see those who preceded her in death especially her mother, Clara as well as her sisters Lois and Eleanor.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Sakakawea Hospice are preferred.
