Albert was born April 30, 1922, the youngest of seven children to William and Magdalene (Schweigert) Wallender. He was raised and educated on the family farm south of Beulah, graduating from Beulah High School in 1942. Albert was baptized on June 18, 1922 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 5, 1936.

On April 26, 1944, he was united in marriage to Esther Bates in Beulah.

On June 1, 1944, Albert entered the US Navy as a radio operator on the USS Enterprise. He was honorably discharged on January 21, 1946. Following his discharge, he went to work for the US Postal Service from which he retired in 1977. After retirement he enjoyed a variety of other jobs. He and Esther were avid Beulah Miner fans; he was a golfer, fisherman, and enjoyed camping and spending time at the lake. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
