Andrew James “AJ” Retterath, 64, of Stanton, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019, due to an ATV accident. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Saturday, October 5, 2019, at St. Martin Catholic Church, Hazen with Fr. Tom Grafsgaard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday and St. Martin Catholic Church, Hazen.
AJ was born on December 1, 1954, at the Hazen Memorial Hospital. He was the seventh of ten children to Martin and Leora (Pfliger) Retterath. He was baptized and confirmed into Christ at St. Martin Catholic Church, Hazen. AJ graduated from Stanton High School in 1973.
He entered the Boilermakers Apprentice Program Local 647 on April 19, 1976 and retired on December 1, 2013.
He took great pride in having the neatest and greenest yard in town. He enjoyed tilling the land, gardening, canning his produce from his garden and cooking, especially his deep fried turkeys. He was known as the best “Ole and Lena” joke teller. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family and his special friend Carol and her family.
He is survived by his special friend Carol Klingenstein of New Salem, ND; his siblings, Joe (special friend, Edna Lorentzen) Retterath of Stanton, ND, Anita (special friend, Roy Entze) Retterath of Zap, ND, Betty Ware of Genesco, IL, Donald (Sandy) Retterath of Hazen, ND, Mary (Harry) Pieterick of New Rockford, ND, Carmen (Miles) Reinholt of Hazen, ND, Rosalie (Hamid) Nakhaie of Oceanside, CA, Stephen (Debi) Retterath of Ft Collins, CO; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; oldest brother, Martin Jr.; sister-in-law, Ellen Retterath; brother-in-law, Ted Ware; one niece, Rhonda DuVall.
