Clarence John “Johnny” Starr, 50, of Killdeer, ND departed this life and rejoined his best friends, his dad and brother on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall, Twin Buttes, ND with Reverend Duane Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery, Twin Buttes.
A wake service will begin at 5:00 PM on Monday, July 22 at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall.
Johnny was born February 1, 1969 at Garrison, ND to Milton “Dusty” Starr and Bessie (Holen) Starr. Johnny was raised and educated in Twin Buttes, ND. He attended Head Start under the tutelage of his grandmother, Hazel Stone and Otter Sage. Johnny continued his education from kindergarten through eighth grade at Twin Buttes Elementary. After eighth grade, he attended and graduated from Halliday High School in 1987.
Johnny attended and graduated from Bismarck Junior College as a certified auto mechanic. During his life, Johnny held many positions. He was a teacher’s aide at Twin Buttes Elementary for a time before starting his career as a top-notch auto mechanic with Dan Porter Motors and later, Sample Auto. Johnny was also employed by KMM, was the manager/mechanic at Cenex of Killdeer, a sales representative for Hedahls, the manager for Twin Buttes Do It Best Hardware, worked for Four-Aces Towing and recently worked for the city of Dunn Center. Johnny was a jack of all trades.
Throughout his life, Johnny met and made many life-long friends. In 1996, Johnny met his life partner, Ruth Halter. Together they enjoyed traveling and gambling at many casinos. Early on, the couple took pleasure in several outdoor activities including fishing, hunting and camping. He always said, “Ruth could bait a hook better than any man”.
Johnny also loved driving and working on cars, playing pool and he loved his guns. Johnny loved coming back home to Twin Buttes to visit his mom, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and his grandchildren. Johnny held a special place in his heart for “his girls”, Kirsten Morsette, Hannah Bosley, Maggie Weigum, Ella Vallejo, Rayne Gullickson and his namesake, Cordell John Starr.
Clarence John Starr is survived by his mother, Bessie Starr of Twin Buttes; his loving, life companion, Ruth Halter of Killdeer; three step-sons, Jerry (Alicia) of Dickinson, Tim (Jess) of Mandan and SSgt. Brent (Amanda) Miller of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Olivia and Tyler Myran, Hunter and Brody Miller, Harper, Taya and Tatum Miller; niece, Nikkita Starr; nephews, Tyler and Colton Starr; uncle, Wendell “Winky” (Caroline) Starr; aunts, Svea (Louis) Lizor and Coya (Mickey) Walker; sister-in-law, Sandra Starr; double cousins, Beverly Lone Bear, Melissa “Stubby” Starr, Hank Starr, Kay, Cynthia, Kevin “Bucky”, Cassondra and Angie Lincoln; and God-children, Colton Starr, Redsky Starr and Falon Howard. Johnny has many other cousins, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends, too numerous to mention.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dusty Starr; his brother, Clinton “Judge” Starr; paternal grandparents, John and Jennie (Spotted Horse) Starr; maternal grandparents, Roy Clarence “Swede” and Agnes (Medicine Stone) Holen; cousins, Jennifer and Sandra Starr; nephews, Timothy Lone Bear Starr and Michael Greaves; uncles, Melvin, Gordan, Gilbert and Wilson Starr, Charlie and Donald Malnourie, Hjalmer, Leighton and Eugene Holen, Sr.; and aunts, Linda, Cleo, Vernette and Melissa Holen, Sharlie and Cynthia Starr and Opal Lincoln.
Johnny was loved by many who will miss him dearly.
