Dennis McKnight Obituary

Dennis McKnight, 78, of Pick City, ND died on September 25, 2019 at Benedictine Living Center, Garrison, ND. An open service will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM CDT on Friday October 4, 2019 at Barbot Funeral Chapel, Beulah with Pastor Alan Hathaway officiating. Burial will follow at Coleharbor Cemetery, Coleharbor, ND.

Dennis was born on September 19, 1941 in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN to Donald and Anna (Lord) McKnight. He grew up mostly in North Dakota, living 20 years in Surrey and finally settling in Pick City for the last 30 plus years.

Dennis served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 1963 and was stationed in Germany where he met Hedwig (Heidi) Reiffurth. They were married for 57 years until the time of Heidi’s death in 2018. The couple had two daughters, Janet and Linda.

Dennis worked as a union painter for many years and finally established McKnight’s Painting and Decorating, where he and Heidi worked at the Freedom Mine for the remainder of his career. He loved hunting and fishing, especially with his wife and brother, Dale. Dennis also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Pick City Fire Department. He was very fortunate to have such a close community/friends in Pick City and also at the Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen. He will be greatly missed by many.
