Edith Kok Obituary

Edith (Englehart) Kok, 86, passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side on February 20, 2019, in Beulah.  A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM MDT, Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Hettinger Senior Citizens Center, Hettinger, with burial to follow at the Hettinger Cemetery beside her husband Alfred (Bud) Kok.

Edith Irene (Englehart) Kok was born September 15, 1932 in Lemmon SD to Louis and Vera (Obst) Englehart.  Edith grew up on the family homestead, along Rabbit Creek, 12 miles south of Bison, SD.  She attended Antelope Country School and Bison High School.  On November 7, 1949 she was united in marriage to Alfred H. Kok at the old Bethany church located in rural Perkins Co.  They farmed and ranched raising their family at the Kok homestead until retirement, moving to Hettinger, ND.  She was a member of Hettinger Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, and active in Ladies Aid groups, and the Jolly Jill’s Homemakers Club.  Edith enjoyed playing any type of cards, especially with her sisters, and teaching her grandkids how to play.  Bud and Edith hardly ever missed a chance to go dancing with friends.  She also enjoyed any board games, word searches, and game shows, visiting with friends and family, attending grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on.  She will be forever remembered for her delicious homemade buns and camel rolls.

She was employed by Rodman’s Pharmacy, Wilson Jewelry, NW School District, as business manager, and ward clerk at West River Regional Medical Center till her retirement.  After her husband’s passing in 2005 she moved to Beulah ND, where she has since lived, making new friendships along the way.

She will be deeply missed by her children; Sheila Cothren, Valerie (Fred) Collins, Alan (Ann) Kok, Mardell Kok, Lori (Lynn) Pagel, and Lyndon (Jane) Kok, along with her 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Nash and Faye Schell; brother, Llewellyn (Karen) Englehart; sister-in-law, Vita Kok; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by loving husband, Bud Kok; her parents, Louis and Vera Englehart; brothers, Leon (Lela Mae) Englehart, Dean (Beverly) Englehart, Louis Englehart, Melvin Englehart; sisters, Ann (Dalton) Carter, Lucille (Alex Stoeser and Buster Johnson), Esther Nash; brothers-in-law, Arlo Nash and Dean Kok; nephews, Marshal Kok and Louis Englehart.

The family would like to thank the amazing team of caregivers and friends for the loving kindness and care given to Edith making her comfortable and allowing her to remain in her home till the lord called her home.  Memorials can be given to West River Regional Medical Center or Hettinger Lutheran Church or donation of your choice.
