Florence Zahara

Florence Zahara, 92, of Hazen, ND passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Augusta Place, Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at English Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Al Beyer officiating. Burial will follow at Hazen City Cemetery, Hazen.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Monday at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen.

Florence was born March 4, 1926, in Wishek, North Dakota, a daughter of Henry and Amanda (Wetzel) Blessing.  She was raised and educated in Wishek and then attended college in Ellendale, Aberdeen, and Mary College in Bismarck attaining a degree in Elementary Education.  Florence taught rural schools for seven years, in Aberdeen for five years and in Fargo one year.  On July 22, 1956, she married Nick Zahara at Aberdeen, South Dakota.  In 1957, they moved to Hazen where Nick became the Vocational Education teacher and Florence was a substitute teacher in the Hazen Elementary school.  Florence loved to meet new friends, socialize and entertain.  Nick and Florence enjoyed gardening and traveling.  They were active members of English Lutheran Church, often helping out when needed.

Florence is survived by her brother, Vernon (Mary) Blessing, two nieces, Debbie Boschee and Gwen Boschee and two grand nieces, Terry (Lance) Van Berkom and Tracy Boschee, and numerous nieces and nephews of Nick.

 Florence was preceded in death by Nick, her husband of 53 years, her parents, her sister Viola Boschee, her brother in law, Rueben Boschee, her nephew Curtis Boschee, and her niece Sarah Chereda.
