Henrietta Guenthner Obituary

Henrietta Annetta Guenthner, 83, entered her heavenly home on May 16, 2019 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Monday, May 20, 2019 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with Pastor Kirk Peters officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Henrietta, the baby of the family, was born July 3, 1935 at Rhein, ND in Oliver County during a late evening thunderstorm.  She was baptized August 18, 1935 in the Rhein church and confirmed June 26, 1949 at Concordia Lutheran church in Beulah.  Her parents were George and Klasina (Cornelius) Loning.

In 1945, her family moved to Beulah.  Her father died the following year.  In 1950, Henrietta’s mother married William Rettke and they moved to his farm south of Beulah.  During the school year, Henrietta lived in Beulah with her brother Anton (Rose) Loning.  She graduated from Beulah High School in 1952, then moved to Hazen.  There she worked for Oliver-Mercer Rural Electric until the birth of her first child.

Henrietta married Bennie Guenthner on March 16, 1956.  They were the first couple to be married in the new St. Matthew Lutheran church where she continued to be a member until her death.

They lived in Hazen, then Wheatland, WY while Bennie worked at the Glendo Dam.  They returned to Hazen where they lived until Henrietta entered Elm Crest Care Center in New Salem, where she received loving care from all the staff.

Henrietta enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, embroidery, but most dear to her were her grandchildren and great-grandson.  She was their day care provider when they were young and never missed any of their sporting events.

Henrietta is survived by her husband, Bennie; her daughters, Sherrie Guenthner and Renae (Murray) Snyder all of Hazen; her granddaughter, Kelsey (Jeremy) Garrett and their son Hunter of Stanton; grandsons, Kristopher (Sarah) Anderson of Brighton, CO and Dustin Snyder (Chloe Krinke) of Hazen; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father; one brother, Louis Loning; two half-brothers, Anton Loning and Fred Kadus; one sister, Margaret Rettke; three half-sisters, Ann Bumann, Pearl Kadus and baby, Geraldine Kadus.
