Jay Walton Van Dyke, 42, Hazen, died surrounded by loving family and friends on July 20, 2018, at the Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen, ND. Services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen, with Father Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT Monday at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen with a prayer service to begin at 7:00 PM.

Jay was born in Martinsburg, WV on June 28, 1976. He was the second child of Walton and Andrea (Block) Van Dyke. Jay was raised and educated in Watford City, ND. He graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City, SD in May of 1999 with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Jay married Annette Younker in February 2005. They made their home in Hazen in 2006. Daughters Ava, Ella and Lily brought extraordinary joy to Jay’s life.  He loved being “Dad.”  Jay loved taking his girls on outdoor adventures, bike rides and trips to the park, always making them his priority.  He also enjoyed motocross riding and racing all of his life, eventually introducing his three daughters to the thrill of riding dirt bikes. It was important to Jay for people to understand the peace that his faith brought him.

Jay worked as an engineer for the City of Mandan after graduation. He then worked for the U.S. Government as the project manager for the Harmon Lake Recreation Area. He became employed at Coteau Properties, Beulah in 2006 and later promoted to Reclamation Manager. Jay took great pride in his work and truly loved his job. He cherished the many friendships he made over the years.

Jay is survived by his wife, Annette; three daughters, Ava, Ella, and Lily; parents, Walton and Andrea, Watford City; sister, Idene (Christopher) Ferris, Bronxville, NY; mother and father-in-law, Kathy and John Younker, Hazen, ND; brothers-in-law, Jacob (Jaime) Younker, and Andrew Younker, both Mandan, ND; nieces and nephews, Reese and Clark Ferris, Kira and Cooper Younker; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant child; his grandparents, Harold and Idene Block, Anne Jorgenson, and Purley Van Dyke.
