Welcome to the memorial page for

Johanna C. Adolf

December 30, 1936 ~ November 20, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

The Lord looked down and saw the pain and suffering she was in and He reached down and took her by the hand and said “My child, your pain and suffering is over. Come with me to your eternal home”.

JOHANNA ADOLF, 80, passed from this earthly life to her eternal home on November 20, 2017, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Salem United Methodist Church, Hazen, ND, with Pastor Cory Thrall officiating. Burial will follow at the Hazen City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen, ND, from 5:00-7:00, and also one hour prior to the church service.

Johanna was born on December 30, 1936, to George and Pauline (Streyle) Wiedrich in Hazen. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zap. She attended public school in Zap, graduating in 1954.

On April 15, 1955, she married Gerhard Adolf in Zap. To this union were born four children, Kevin, Nancy, Susan, and Keri. After Gerhard’s discharge from the military, they made their home in Bismarck where she was employed with the First National Bank until 1965 when they moved to Hazen. While in Hazen, she was employed with the Mercer County Soil Conservation District, and in different office positions of various plants during their construction. In November 1989, they moved to Las Vegas, NV, where she was employed with the Nevada Federal Credit Union until her retirement in 2005, moving back to Hazen in 2006. In 2009, she had several surgeries which left her with special needs. Gerhard with his unending devotion and commitment to Johanna, never left her side and never asked or expected someone else to care for her. He was true to his vows “in sickness and in health, until death do us part”.

Johanna was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church Choir in Bismarck and of Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. She was also active in teaching Sunday school, Peace Church Women’s organizations, Homemakers Club, Girl and Boy Scouts, and a 4-H Club Leader. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, cross stitching, ceramics, playing cards, picture puzzles, gospel music, and dance music. She specially enjoyed her grandchildren’s visits and attended many of their school functions.

Johanna is survived by her husband, Gerhard, of 62 years; one son, Kevin (Joan) Adolf of Warrensburg, MO; two daughters, Susan (Jody) Retterath of Hazen, ND; Keri Smith of Granger, IA; five grandchildren, Brian and Amanda Adolf; Kalyn, Becca, and John Retterath; three great grandchildren, Brittney, Matthew, and Alicia Adolf; one brother, George (Wilma) Wiedrich of Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
