John Allmer Obituary

JOHN ALLMER, 68, of Beulah, died Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Beulah.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

John was born on July 22, 1949, to William and Ottilia (Unruh) Allmer in Beulah, ND.  He was raised and educated in Beulah.  He attended Bismarck Junior College and Dickinson State College, graduating with a degree in Bookkeeping/Accounting.  John worked several years for Basin Electric Company and in his later years, was employed in the construction trade.

John loved being in the great outdoors, enjoying camping and fishing.  Many a fishing trip included time with his cousins and nephews trying to catch “the big one.”  Johns was a gentle and kind soul and did countless favors for anyone in need.  He made sure that he helped his parents with anything and everything around the house.  John truly enjoyed the four seasons of ND, whether it involved cutting grass or blowing snow.  His pride was evident in all that he did.  For many years John took care of the lawns at Immanuel Baptist Church and also made sure the snow was removed prior to church services.  John had a great love for children and family and was a proud team member of the Awana program in his church in which he was actively involved for 20 years.

Sadly, in 2011, John was involved in a car/motorcycle accident that changed his life forever.  The injuries sustained from that accident resulted in him becoming a resident, first, of the Bismarck Baptist home and later the Knife River Care Center.  He made many friends of both staff and other residents, but was understandably upset that his life was now limited to a walker, recliner and wheelchair.

John was a great brother, uncle, cousin and much more.  He loved the Lord and accepted Christ into his heart as his personal Savior many years ago.  John’s desire and mission in life was for everyone to know the Lord in a deep and personal way.  We, his family, rest assured knowing that one day we will all be reunited again in our eternal home.

John is survived by two brothers, James and Susan Allmer of Bismarck, Mark and Joanna Allmer of Killeen, TX; one sister-in-law, Catherine Allmer of Rapid City, SD; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norman; one great-niece, Shandra Mlekoday.
