LaVonne "Vonnie" Rosenow Obituary

LaVonne “Vonnie” Johnson (Voeltz) Rosenow, 96, of Hazen, passed into the loving arms of her Savior Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Knife River Care Center, Beulah ND.  Services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT, Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Salem United Methodist Church, Hazen, with Pastor Steve Behrens officiating.  Burial will follow at the Hazen City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen.

LaVonne was born south of Hazen on June 27, 1923 to Ruby (Stetson) and George Johnson, the seventh of nine children.  Vonnie grew up on the family farm south of Hazen, attending school at the Red Butte Country School, graduating from Center High School.  Thanks to her mother, Ruby, Vonnie was blessed with the love of music and the gift of playing the piano.

LaVonne met and married Lou Voeltz in 1941.  Four blessings followed, Janice, Hope, LuAnn and Barry.  Vonnie lost Lou in a car accident in 1949.

Several years later, Vonnie was swept off her feet by Walt Rosenow who took her as his wife in 1954.  They added two to their family, Ferne and Archie.

Von was kept very busy raising her family.  She helped keep her family well fed by growing large gardens while cooking and baking non-stop. Later she enjoyed working as a home health aid for Mercer County Social Services.  She will be forever remembered for her personal style of tickling the ivories.  Many were entertained and inspired by her self taught piano gifts at home and in her church.   LaVonne had a steadfast love for her Lord.  She was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Vonnie is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Paul George of Seneca, SC and LuAnn and Jeff Lee of San Diego, CA and Ferne and Ray Richardson of Las Vegas NV; two sons and daughters in law, Barry and Peggy Voeltz of Clarkston, MI and Arch and Luanne Rosenow of Hazen ND; one son-in-law, Jim Wiedrich of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Hope Wiedrich; six brothers, Lloyd, Lyle, Gale, Earl, Ivan and Donald; two sisters, Gwen and Sharon; one grandson, Zachary Voeltz, and one granddaughter, Brooke George Boone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Salem United Methodist Church, Hazen.
