Marian Gompper Obituary

Marian Hagen Gompper, 85, of Beulah, ND died peacefully surrounded by her children on October 16, 2019 at the Garrison Memorial Hospital. Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 1:00 PM CDT at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah with Pastor Mary Lou Aune officiating.

Marian Gertrude Day was born in McCanna, ND to Frank and Bessie Day. She graduated from Larimore High School in 1951. Marian married Raymond M. Hagen in December 1951 and to this union five children were born. While in Beulah, Marian was active in various community and civic groups, Zion Lutheran Church and was a member of multiple bridge groups. As an avid bridge player, her children would tease her that the only time she cleaned the house was when the bridge ladies came over. She met many lifelong friends in Beulah. Marian was known for her outgoing personality, friendly demeanor and the best Halloween house in Beulah.

Marian graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1981, Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Arts and Sciences and in 1983 with a Master’s degree in English. Following graduation, she moved to Santa Maria, CA where she lived for over 20 years, making many more friends and having new adventures. Marian worked at the Diablo Nuclear Reactor Plant for many years (she said it was the dumbest job she ever had). She married Allen Gompper and gained three great step-children. Marian resided in California until the death of her husband when she returned to North Dakota.

Marian is survived by her children, Mark and Kathy Hagen of Arlington, WA, John Hagen of Dickinson, Mary and Bob Bodine of Boise, ID, Ann and Jeff Reinholt of Garrison, ND and Barb and Greg Kempf of Boise, ID; three step-children, Christine, Julie and Greg Gompper, all of California; 10 grandchildren, Aaron Hagen, Holly Jones, Rebecca Clark, Nick Kempf, Jeremy Hagen, McKayla Yeager, Blake Reinholt, Elizabeth Diffely, Brookes Reinholt and Samantha Mager; 10 great-grandchildren; Raymond Hagen; and her great friend, Mildred McKenzie of Beulah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bessie; her husband, Allen; her brothers, Richard Day and Kenny Day; and her sister, Beverly Day.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
