Neil Espen

Neil Andrew Espen, 64, passed away on August 6, 2019 at his home in Zap, North Dakota.  Interment service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 9, at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

Neil was born on October 15, 1954 in Scobey, Montana.  He was the second of three children born to June and George Espen.  Neil grew up in Grand Forks and McClusky, North Dakota.  Neil enlisted in the Navy in 1972. 

Neil served in the Vietnam War on a Navy supply ship stationed in Sasebo, Japan.  He served in the Navy until his honorable discharge in 1976.  Neil had the opportunity to live and work in many places such as Crescent Valley, Nevada, Battle Mountain, Nevada, Tehachapi, California and Beulah, North Dakota.  Neil was an equipment operator and very proficient on the blade working on airports, gold and coal mines.  Neil also worked as a long haul trucker. 

Neil is survived by his two sisters; Valerie Espen of Winnemucca, NV and Alison Hoffer of Zionsville, IN; two nephews; Eric (Amanda) Hoffer of Beulah and Christopher Hoffer of Bismarck, and his niece Megan (Justin) Raymer of Zionsville, IN.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, June and George Espen and brother-in-law, Steve Hoffer. 

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
