Phyllis Spier, 89, of Beulah, ND, went to be with her Lord after a courageous 7-year fight with leukemia, on Thurs, Sept 27, at Knife River Care Center. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM CDT on October 2, 2018 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Beulah, with Pastor Kent Sperry officiating. Burial will follow at the Beulah City Cemetery and a family reception to follow. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM CDT Monday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.
Phyllis was born to Fredrick and Elizabeth Fuehrer Flegel on Oct 1, 1928 at home in Linton, ND. The family moved to Beulah when Phyllis was 15 years old, where she spent the rest of her life as a wife and mother. She married William Spier April 9, 1947 and they raised three children. William passed Aug 31, 1991.
Phyllis grew up in a very musical family. She loved to sing, play guitar and yodel. She baked beautiful birthday cakes and was a great pastry chef. Phyllis enjoyed beading and sewing and was very active in Red Hats and TEAM (used to be TOPS).
She is survived by three children, Shirley (Mel) Schlafman, Erwin Spier and David Spier all of Beulah; eight grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Extended family includes two surviving sisters; Nyla Prosser (Superior, MT) and Hazel Spracklin (Wildomar, CA), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, and a great grandchild-Devan Schlafman, as well as her siblings, Rita Spracklin, Ruben Flegel, and Wilfred Flegel.
