Timothy Welk Obituary

Timothy Alvin Welk, age 64, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2019, with family by his side at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen, ND. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with Pastor Mary Lou Aune officiating.  Burial will follow in the Beulah City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Tim was born on February 26, 1955, to Richard and Tabea (Schmidt) Welk and was welcomed home by his twin siblings, Tom and Judy. He was a 1973 graduate of Beulah High School.

After high school, Tim began working for his great uncle at Welk Steel in Bismarck before being hired at the MDU power plant, where he worked until the plant was tore down and rebuilt as Coyote Station Power Plant, south of Beulah. He retired the beginning of 2016 after 37 years with Otter Tail.

On October 24, 1980, Tim married the love of his life in Bismarck, ND and from that day forward, he was the proud husband of Linda Schon. Together their family grew by two, raising Jonathan Ken & Stacy Jean. He enjoyed spending time outside with his kids during their upbringing.

Some of Tim’s hobbies included carpentry, woodworking, golfing, playing cards, watching baseball (he loved those Yankees), horseshoe, working around the farm, annual trips to Vegas for the NFR with cousins, spending time at the condo with Linda and family, family game nights with the Wiedrichs, getting down on his hands and knees to dig up dirt in the sandbox with the grandkids, & helping his family with any project they brought to the table.

You could always tell Tim was beyond proud of his grandkids. You would often find him working around the farm with Hunter by his side, fencing or teaching him all of that grandpa wisdom, playing cars & trucks or building blocks with Cazden, reading a book to Brynlie on his lap, or lighting up the room with that big smile he’d get when he’d talk to Brexlie.

Tim left this world with a heart of gold, just as he’d been brought into it. He wore many hats during his time here, including (but not limited to), a devoted & loving husband, a dedicated father, a true & loyal friend and neighbor, and a grandpa who loved to spoil his grandkids - he was always digging into his special hidden candy stash by the chair whenever they’d come around.

Although Tim’s time on earth was short lived, he did have the chance to know and love each friend and family member in his life. He taught all of us a life lesson in some way or another. He was a quiet man with few words but when he did have something to say, there was a lot of power in his words. He was selfless, kind, loyal, and caring. He was always putting others first. How blessed are we to have something that makes saying “see you later” so hard?

Tim wouldn’t want us to shed tears for him. He would want to be remembered for the memories we’ve grown to know and love about him and that this is simply not “goodbye”, but “see you later.”

He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, John & Ella Schon; one sister-in-law, Aileen Welk;.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Jon (Jordan) Welk and Stacy Welk; grandchildren, Hunter Lind, Cazden, Brynlie, & Brexlie Welk all of Beulah; siblings, Tom Welk and Judy Welk; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

On November 12, 2019, Heaven gained an angel that this world will never forget.
