Wilfred Joseph Schumacher, 86, of Beulah, ND passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Marian Manor, Glen Ullin, ND. Services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT on Friday, August 9, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah with Fr. Tom Grafsgaard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 PM.
Wilfred was born on July 21, 1933 to Joseph and Frances (Weiand) Schumacher in the Bluegrass area. He was baptized at St. Benedict Catholic Church and attended school at Burt School in Oliver County south of Beulah. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 17, 1953 and served for two years before being honorably discharged on March 31, 1955. Wilfred greatly enjoyed taking part in tractor pulls during the summer months, whether he was a spectator or a participant. He won many pulls and had the trophies to prove it. In 1966, Wilfred built Wilfred’s Texaco and later it became Wilfred’s Conoco. He operated the station until he retired in the late 1990s.
Wilfred moved into Marian Manor in June 2017 and lived there until his death.
He is survived by his sister, Elaine Keller; one sister-in-law, Delphine Schumacher; one brother-in-law, Jim Renner; his nieces and nephews, Donna (Nick) Thomas, Sylvia (Steve) Dschaak, Rita (Duane) Opp, Brenda Renner, Randy (Jerilyn) Renner, Rick Renner, Julian Keller and Melissa (Maynard) Arneson; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Schumacher; one brother, Clarence; one sister, Theresa Renner; one brother-in-law, Joe Keller; and one niece Fay.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
