Adam Wilkens Obituary

Adam Walter Wilkens, 36, of Bismarck, ND formerly of Center, ND went peacefully to be with the Lord in his sleep, on March 7, 2019, while working his life time dream of owning his own business. Services will be held at 10:30 AM CDT on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Evangel Temple, Bismarck.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, at Evangel Temple, Bismarck.

Adam was born on May 10, 1982 in Mandan, ND to Blake & Patty (Staigle) Wilkens and baptized June 6th, 1982 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hannover. He attended Center school and graduated in 2000. He attended the lineman program and graduated from Bismarck State College in 2001. He married Amy Dawn Thom in Grand Forks on June 6th, 2009. They lived happily between Denver, CO and Bismarck, ND.

With their Union of Love, Xander Thom & Hendrix Adam were born. Adam was a loving & caring husband, father, son, brother, godfather and friend. He loved sports, was an avid hunter & fisherman, and loved boating with his family and friends. Our home was a revolving door for many loved ones and he didn’t want it any other way.

He worked for various power line companies before starting his own company. He started at Waffensmith, then transferred to Colorado Powerline Inc (CPI), from there he journeyed to East Grand Forks (where he met the love of his life, Amy), and then moved back to Denver and started at CPI again. After getting married to Amy, he accepted a job at Rough Rider Electric in Hazen, and then life took them back to Colorado and CPI where they built their life and had their children.

Adam’s lifelong dream was to have his own business which became a reality in April 2013 when AW Power was born in North Dakota. He was a very hard worker, a great leader and owner, and a jokester who constantly kept his guys on their feet. Adam truly had a passion for what he did and cherished his employees and their families, and in the last minutes of his life, they were by his side and worked so hard to help him in every way possible.

Adam loved his family, friends, and especially his wife and little boys fiercely, and would do anything for anyone. He truly had a heart of GOLD.

Adam is survived by his wife, Amy and two little boys, Xander and Hendrix; his parents, Blake and Patty Wilkens; his siblings, Brian (Brea) and their children, Brayden, Brennli and Braxxton of Brighton, CO, Brooke (Jory) of Brighton, CO, Connor (fiancée, Whitney) of Bismarck, ND; his in-laws, Bruce and Donna Thom; his brothers-in-law, Tony and Matthew; his paternal grandmother, Adeline Wilkens; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Adam is preceded in death by their two angel babies; both his grandfathers, Louis Wilkens and Martin Staigle; his maternal grandmother, Marlene Staigle; his uncle, Clay Bornemann, and special friend, Murray Hintz.

In lieu of flowers, a separate fund has been set up at Gate City Bank for Amy and the boys under the ADAM WILKENS BENEFIT. Please feel free to go into any Gate City Bank or call to make a donation for Amy and the boys.
