Adeline Luella Wilkens, 91, of Center, ND passed away Monday, March 16, 2020 at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Friday, March 20, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hannover with Pastor Zelwyn Heide officiating. Burial will follow at 12:00 PM CDT on Monday, March 23, 2020 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Thursday, March 19, at St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Adeline was born on October 3, 1928 in New Salem, ND to Herman W. and Rosetta (Kern) Henke. She was baptized on October 28, 1928 and was confirmed on April 18, 1943 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. She attended parochial school in Hannover and high school in New Salem where she graduated from New Salem High School in 1947. Adeline was married to Louis E. Wilkens on August 7, 1949 by Pastor Gierke at St. Peter Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with six children, Bruce, Blaine, Blake, Michelle, Cynthia and Brent. Adeline and Louis moved to Center in 1979. Over the years, Adeline worked at various places including babysitting for the Fenster family, managing the Hen House, cooking at the Golden Age Center and was the head cook for Center High School. The last place she was employed was the Center Golf Course, where she also enjoyed golfing.
Adeline was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was active in LWML and choir. For many years, Adeline was also a ticket taker for sporting events at Center High School. In her younger years, she was an active 4-H member and won various ribbons on dress reviews, also winning a national trip to Washington, D.C.
Adeline is survived by her six children, Bruce (Kim) Wilkens of Center, Blaine (Mikey) Wilkens of Hannover, Blake (Patty) Wilkens of Hannover, Michelle (Jeff) Huwe of Farmington, NM, Cynthia (Dale) Berg of Hannover, and Brent Wilkens of Fargo, ND; 16 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Bueligen; one brother, Herbert Henke; one brother-in-law, Harold (Delma) Wilkens; one sister-in-law, Orlene Henke; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; one grandson, Adam Wilkens; one son-in-law, Clay Bornemann; two sisters, Dorothy (Bill) Hintz and Hilda (Forrest) Jensen; three brothers, Ruben (Dorene) Henke, Wilbert Henke and Ervin Henke; one sister-in-law, Harriet Henke; one brother-in-law, Duane Bueligen; and one infant sister, Rosette.
Due to the recommendations regarding Coronavirus, we are asking that funerals be limited to family only, if possible. Gatherings of 50 people or more are being discouraged, please use your own discretion to keep others safe. Thank you for understanding and respecting the family at this time.
