Alma was born at home in Hazen, North Dakota on July 3, 1924, to Bernhard and Emilia Boeszhans Galster. She was raised and educated in the Hazen area and attended a Licensed Practical Nurse’s training at the Hazen Hospital. After her graduation from that course, Alma spent time traveling around the country as a nurse to locations including Ogden, Utah; Hinsdale, Illinois; Santa Monica, California; and Hood River, Oregon. She met her husband Bob Swenson through mutual friends, and when he visited her in Oregon and proposed to her, she accepted. They were married on May 28, 1950 and began a successful life farming on Bob’s family farm. Together they raised and provided education for their four children. During this time they shared the family and farm life with many nieces and nephews. After Alma’s beloved husband passed away, she traveled to visit all her children, then alternated between living with her son Bob and her daughter -in-law Brenda in Idaho, and her daughter Donna and son-in-law Todd in California. Alma was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed her hobbies of knitting, Bible study, letter writing, and communicating with her many relatives and friends.

Alma is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bob and Brenda Swenson of Sagle, Idaho; and LeRoy Swenson of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Jim Pimley of Lyle, Washington; and Donna and Todd Underwood of Loma Linda, California. Alma has one grandson, Eric Swenson of Sagle, Idaho; one granddaughter, Kelli and AJ Smith of Nampa, Idaho; two great grandchildren, Lily Smith and Parker Smith of Nampa, Idaho; one sister, Erna Unterseher of New Salem, North Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Edna Galster of Bismarck, North Dakota; and Ruth Galster of Roseburg, Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Swenson; her son, Paul; and her daughter-in-law, Karen Swenson. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond Galster, John Galster, Leonard Galster, and one sister, Antonia Johnson.
