Alvin “Al” Weidner, 79, of Halliday, ND, went to heaven on January 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. Services will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah, ND at 10:00 AM CT on Friday, January 17, 2024 with Pastor Toby Heller officiating. Burial will follow at Defiance Cemetery, north of Halliday.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CT on Thursday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.
Alvin was born on January 31, 1945, to Herman and Amelia (Frei) Weidner. He grew up on the family farm in rural Halliday and attended country school through the 8th grade before joining his father in farming and ranching. Al also worked numerous side jobs throughout his life.
On December 1, 1967, Alvin married Donna Wolf, and the couple made their home in Dickinson, where Al worked for the Dickinson Water Department. They later returned to Halliday, where Al farmed and ranched full-time with Donna by his side. Together, they raised three sons—Mike, Mark, and Matthew—who were Al’s pride and joy.
Al served on the Dodge Elevator Board and drove school bus for 30 years, often making friends with everyone he met. He and Donna enjoyed square dancing, and Al was known for his ability to tell a good story and strike up a conversation with anyone. His kind and friendly nature touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna; his three sons, Mike (Kelly) of Kindred, Mark (Bridget) of Bismarck, and Matthew (Chrisma) of Halliday; three grandchildren, Brandon (Samantha), Taylor, and Brayden; one great-grandson, Waylon; one sister, Bonnie Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sarah; and three brothers, Donald, Fred, and Danny.
Alvin’s love for his family and friends, along with his warm and welcoming spirit, will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
