Arlene "Arnie" (Zahn) Stern

Arlene “Arnie” Faye Stern, 60, of Golden Valley, ND passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Barbot Funeral Chapel, Beulah, ND. Burial will follow at St. Mattheis Cemetery, rural Golden Valley.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Thursday, April 8 at Barbot Funeral Home.

Arnie was born on July 4, 1960 in Bottineau, ND to Verlin and Doris (Steinhous) Zahn. She attended various schools and later obtained her GED. Arlene attended Northwest Community Tech School in Moorhead, MN and earned her welding certificate. She worked for H.V. Johnston in Fargo as a welder for five years. In 1992, Arnie moved to Fingal, ND and managed several cafes and bars. She married Steve Stern on August 11, 2007 and the couple moved to Oakes, ND and later to Golden Valley, ND. Arnie was employed with Bronson’s Marketplace for eight years.

Arnie enjoyed camping with her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She also liked to garden and sew, do word finds and dot-to-dots. She was also an avid letter writer and frequently sent cards and letters to friends and family. She loved collecting knick knacks, often from animated movies.

She is survived by her husband, Steve of Golden Valley; her children, Justin Grenz of Bismarck, Jonathon (Crystal) Grenz of Fingal, ND, Jamie (Robert) Becker of Glyndon, MN and Jenna (Ed Komrosky) Rosenbaum of Fingal, ND; one step-son, Trent Wilhelm of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Izabella, Vaeda, Dezirae, Mathew, Alice, Miles Walken, Tifani, Breana, Gage and Axel; two sisters, Carlene (Larry) Solar of Minot, ND and Geri (Steve) Bommersbach of Enderlin, ND; one brother, Ed (Charlotte) Zahn of Minot, ND; her mother-in-law, Shirley Stern of Golden Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Verlin and Doris.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.
