Barbara (Pfliger) Oestreich

BARBARA ANN OESTREICH, 96, of Hazen, died Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 4, 2020, at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery, Hazen, with Fr. Tom Grafsgaard officiating. 

Barbara was born on May 8, 1923, near Pleasant Valley, ND to Bernard and Florentina (Heinz) Pfliger.  She was raised and educated near there.  On July 11, 1949, she married Arvid Oestreich.  Together they started farming near Center, ND and then moved north of Hazen where they continued to farm.  Barbara worked at the Hazen hospital for a number of years and was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen. 

Barbara loved to play card and marbles.  She also liked to crochet and go fishing whenever she could.

She is survived by two sons, Timothy Oestrich of Gwinner, ND and Dale (Deedee) Oestreich of Cave Creek, AZ; two grandsons, Leon (Kellie) Oestrich and Nathan (Sara) Oestrich; two granddaughters, Dusty Oestreich and Olivia Oestriech; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Elizabeth, William and Levi; two sisters, Clementine “Sis” Friesz and Gertie Welk; numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arvid; five sisters, Agnes Emineth, Mariah Thompson, Monica Lang and Berbeda Pfliger and Frances Walter; six brothers, Raymond, Barnard, Adam, Frank, Tony and Nick Pfliger.
