Betty Dressler, 89, of Beulah, ND went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 24, 2025 at her home, after a long battle with cancer and complications due to a stroke. Betty fought every battle with dignity, strength, and stubbornness. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah with Fr. Thomas Grafsgaard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST on Thursday, February 27 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.
Betty was born on October 9, 1935 in a cabin north of Dodge, ND by a midwife to Fred and Emelia (Faser) Ziegler. She was raised on a farm. Betty had to quit school at a young age to help work on the farm. At 19 years old, she met the love of her life, Gene Dressler. Betty and Gene were married October 12, 1953 at St. Martin Catholic Church, south of Dodge. The couple made their home in Halliday, ND where three children were added to their union, Sandy, Randy “Butch” and Cindy. Betty and Gene were married for 62 years before Gene passed away.
Betty worked at Mel Porter Café and later became Post Master while the family lived in Halliday. In 1965, Betty and Gene moved the family to Leadville, CO where Gene worked in an underground mine for five years. Betty stayed home and took care of her children. From there, the family moved to Tucson, AZ. Betty worked at K-Mart and later at a women’s clothing store. Later the family moved to Dickinson, ND. Betty worked for Dr. Jim Larsen (OD). Sometime later, the family moved to Shirley Basin, WY. Betty worked at a mine site in the only grocery, post office, bar, all rolled into one building. After several years, the family moved back to North Dakota and Betty and Gene operated their bar in Halliday. They sold the bar and worked as custodians for Halliday Public Schools for a time. They later moved to Beulah and worked as custodians for Beulah Public Schools until their retirement.
Betty enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Her passion was crocheting blankets and giving them away to so many family members and friends, as well as donating them to charities. Betty taught herself how to play the guitar at 16 years old. She had several guitars and enjoyed playing them and singing old country songs and gospel songs. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, relatives, friends, and last but not least, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and finally her great-great-grandchildren. She was really proud when she got her GED at 60 years old.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Dressler and Cindy Pickett, both of Beulah; one son, Randy “Butch” Dressler (friend, Dawn Wolf) of Dickinson; four grandchildren, Casey (Millisa) Worden, Cori (Nathan) Kindrix, Kyleen Dressler and Trevor (Keala) Dressler; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Brayden, Austin, Adyson, Tayten, Ava, Phoenix and Keaton; three great-great-grandchildren, Ariella, Diesel, and Emberly; four brothers, Archie (LaVerne) Ziegler, Larry (Caroline), Rick (Sarah), Wayne (Karen); two sisters, Joyce Dahms and Margie Kivelvang; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; granddaughter-in-law, Becky Dressler; parents-in-law, Phillip and Magdalena Dressler; brother, Roy Ziegler; sister, Netty (Bob) Radke; daughter-in-law, Peggy Dressler; son-in-law, Bill Pickett; brother-in-law, Nick Dressler; sisters-in-law, Francis Dressler, Lena Dressler, Betty (Wally) Wald and Ramona Larsen; and nephew, Russell Dressler.
Many thanks to SMC Hospice (Nikki and Jenae) and Social Services (Amy). Betty really liked all three of you, especially when she got her spa/bath.
Mom, we are going to miss you so much. There will be no more suffering for you. You are in a beautiful place. We will see you again. Say hello to Dad (Grandpa) from all of us.
