Betty Sailer Obituary

***UPDATE***

Due to the Governor's request regarding Coronavirus, we are asking that funerals be limited to family only, if possible.  Gatherings of 50 people or more are being discouraged. Thank you for understanding and respecting the family at this time.

Betty Lou Sailer, 84, of Pick City, ND passed away at home, surrounded by family on March 10, 2020.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at English Lutheran Church, 146 Main St. West, Hazen, ND with Pastor Justin Johnson officiating.  Burial will be held at 2:00 PM CDT at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Betty was born February 25, 1936 in Mannhaven, ND to Art and Ida Horning.  She spent the early part of her life in Stanton where she met and married Benny Sailer on July 25, 1952.  They were married for 64 years.  Benny passed away in 2016.  The honeymoon suite and their first home was a railroad car on a corner lot in Pick City. This was the location for the first home that Betty and Benny bought and lived in the majority of their lives.

Betty was the city auditor for Pick City for many years.  She loved bowling, gardening and was an expert canner especially with pickles, cabbage and peppers. She occupied her time with crocheting during the winter months; dolies were her favorite wedding gift. She enjoyed her time with the ladies of Pick City in weight club, walking club and Red Hats.  Betty came to know Jesus in her heart in 1986 and this produced a dramatic change in her life.  She came to know the Lord in a very close and special way.  In a few years the great-grandchildren started to arrive and they were so very special to Betty. She always looked forward to all those wonderful family times.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Gary) Eslinger of Pick City and Robin Sailer of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Chad Eslinger and family of Minneapolis, MN, Corey Eslinger and family of Fargo, ND and Dawn Romero and family of Santa Fe;  six great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Horning of Mayville, ND; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny; daughter, Jodi; grandson, George; her parents; and two sisters.

The family would like to thank the entire professional, loving and caring team of Hospice Care from Hazen for the kind and compassionate treatment while she was in their care and all friends and family who offered their kindest thoughts and prayers.
