Brigette (DeCora) Little Owl

Brigette Renae Little Owl (DeCora) (Sitting Up Straight Woman) (Gise We Minakga), 62, of Bismarck, ND passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Private family services will be held at be held at Red Feather Irwin’s home in Twin Buttes, ND. The public is welcome to join the family for the graveside service at 11:00 AM CST on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Twin Buttes Congregational Cemetery with Diane Travers officiating. Everyone in attendance is invited to join the family for the feed and giveaway at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall.

In consideration of CDC, North Dakota, and Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Nation COVID-19 guidelines, social distancing will be observed, and masks are required.  For the safety of all our families, if you have tested positive for Covid-19, or have been a Covid-19 close contact within the past 14 days, please refrain from attending.

Brigette was born on November 18, 1958 in Winnebago, NE to Matthew P. and Geneva “John Brown” (Smith) DeCora. She attended San Gorgonio High School and graduated in 1976 in San Bernardino California and went on to attend Skadron College for two years with a degree in legal secretary/criminal justice field. Brigette continued to work in the law enforcement field, legal secretary and Bureau of Indian Affairs Law Enforcement for 40 years. She married Orville Little Owl on March 24, 1994 in San Bernadino, CA. The couple resided there until 1997 when they moved to Winnebago, NE with their family.

She loved to play Softball and watch the games on TV. When she was in softball she was a pitcher, left field, and short stop. Brigette also loved to play volleyball and was on the volleyball team in college. She loved to sew and have family game nights. She loved to watch her sons sing with their Drum Group Iron Bull. Anything her sons did she was always there cheering them on. Her recent favorite was to spend time with her granddaughter Lillian.

Since 2018 she had an ongoing battle with kidney failure and she was eventually put on dialysis 3x a week. She had existing heart problem that led to having recent heart failure problems. We like to thank everyone who helped with her Go Fund Me and Medical Fund Raffles. They proceeds helped pay on her doctor bills from being dropped from Medicaid and MediCare.

Brigette is survived by her sons: Kendall (Chelsea) Little Owl, Spencer (Khannie) Little Owl, Donald (Angela) DeCora, John (Erica) Weaver, Sisters: Debra A. DeCora, Lucinda M. DeCora, Brothers: Matthew M. DeCora, Myles D. DeCora, Leo P. DeCora,; her grandchildren: Lucian Lewis DeCora, Audrin Ann DeCora, Raiden Russell DeCora, Keegan Kendall DeCora, Vonlyn Viola DeCora, Priscilla Brigette DeCora; her pride and joy Lillian Josephine Little Owl; and numerous other family members.

She was preceded in death by Husband Orville W. Little Owl, Father Matthew P. DeCora, Mother Geneva Smith (DeCora), Brother Michael L. DeCora, Uncle Joseph “Woosha” Harrison, Grandmother Lucinda O’Connor (St. Cyr).
