Bruce A. Mattheis, was a caring husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He passed away on October 7, 2023, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen, after a brief battle with cancer. Services will be held at 1:00 PM CDT Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bruce was born on December 21, 1959 to Edwin and Rogean Mattheis. He was born and raised in Hazen, ND. He married Dana Fritsvold on October 6, 1979. Bruce worked as an operator at DGC until he retired in 2018. He enjoyed wood working with Dana (that she would talk him into), and always said he either had a project or a pile of saw dust.
Bruce loved his family and was most proud of his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Dana; children, Katie (Alan) Weisz, Charmaine Stadler (Troy Gangl), and Matthew Mattheis, brothers and sisters-in-law, Craig and Penny Mattheis, Gary and Elena Mattheis; sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and John Schuh; granddaughters, Brynn (Austin) Lehmann, Payton, Devin, and Cailyn Weisz, grandsons, JT Peterson, Jayden (Breanna) and Ian Weisz; great-grandsons, Owen Lehmann, Kyler Weisz, great-granddaughter, Rylee Weisz; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Rogean Mattheis, nephews, Jason Mattheis and Ayur Dorzhiyev.
The family would like to thank Hazen Hospice and Sakakawea Medical Center for their exceptional care of Bruce these past few months.
