Chad R. Bergstad

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Chad Raymond Bergstad. He passed away on September 23, 2025 in Hazen, ND at his house from a heart attack.

Chad was born in Minot, ND on June 12, 1974 to Dennis Bergstad and Carla McKay (Knutson). Chad attended school in Hazen until his junior year when the family moved to Stanton where he graduated high school in 1992. He would later continue his education by joining the Boilermakers Union in 1998.

Chad spent most of his younger years working various restaurant jobs until 1998 when he followed his step-father’s footsteps and joined the Boilermakers Union. In the Union, he had a vast career of working in power plants around the country. Starting as an apprentice in 1998, he would grow and raise to General Forman positions until 2014, where he became a Superintendent for ICI. He would continue working for ICI until 2022. Just recently, he signed back with the Boilermakers to carry on doing the work he loved.

Chad’s hobbies largely included hunting, fishing, golf, cooking, and music. His passion for music led him to regularly bring his “emotional support” guitar with him. He was always quick with a dad joke. The drier the better. Chad was also an avid teacher. Sharing his knowledge was an exciting joy for Chad. Much of this knowledge came from being as hands on as he could with everything. Chad could regularly be found taking engines and TVs apart both to fix them and to learn just how they worked. There was nothing he wouldn’t try to learn more about and if he could learn it hands on it was even better for him. This constantly made him find more and more hobbies to learn from.

Chad is survived by his parents Dennis Bergstad, and Robert and Carla McKay. Siblings Stacy, Jessica, Rebecca, and Ryan. His children Quentin (Danielle), Lance, and favorite daughter, Olivia. His grandchildren, Kevin and Darbie. Grandmother Norma Knutson and multiple nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brother Lloyd Bergstad and grandparents Raymond and Mildred Bergstad, and Kenneth Knutson.

Please join us for a celebration of Chad’s life on Monday, September 29, 2025 starting at 2:00 PM CT at the Stanton Civic Center with food to follow.
