Clifton Royce Whitman Sr., Ptiir Pteeh ta “Running Buffalo” was born on July 22nd, 1960 to Jennie (Begay) Whitman and Albert Whitman Sr. in Watford City, ND. Clifton Royce Whitman Sr., passed away on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024 at Trinity Hospital, in Minot ND.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Twin Buttes Wellness Center, Twin Buttes with Duane Fox officiating. Burial will follow at the Burr Family Cemetery.

The wake will begin at 5:00 PM CDT on Friday, March 22 at Twin Buttes Wellness Center.

Clifton attended school in Mandaree ND. Throughout his high school years he enjoyed playing sports. Basketball was his favorite sport, he made the varsity team when he was an eighth grader and was the point guard. He also received an award for MVP, which he was very proud of. Clifton also participated in track and cross country. He attended college at Dickinson State University and then later transferred to Bismarck State College where he went into Power Plant Technology. During this time, Clifton married his high school sweetheart and soulmate Jolene F. Fox on June 12th, 1982. They had three children Clifton Jr., Heather, and Miranda.

Clifton started working for the Three Affiliated Tribes until he was hired at the Dakota Gasification Plant in Beulah, ND. Clifton and his family resided in Beulah for 15 years, they returned to New Town in 1998 when Clifton got a job working for the Environmental Department with the Three Affiliated Tribes. In 2003, with grant monies he started the Emergency Management/Homeland Security Program where he remained until his retirement in August of 2023, due to medical issues. He was very accomplished and held many certificates from various training he attended. He was well known throughout the state of North Dakota and built good relationships with state representatives in Homeland Security.

Clifton had many hobbies; he played darts, bowled and softball. He enjoyed watching his favorite Softball Team “Sportsmans” and followed them and was their biggest fan. His favorite pastime was golfing or spending time with his golf buddies “The Wolf Pack” at the Edgewater Golf Course. One of his favorite moments is when he got a hole in one on the eighth hole at the Edgewater Golf Course in New Town, ND, with his buddies “The Wolf Pack” as witnesses.

Throughout his life, Clifton has met many people that became very good friends. There were very few places that he could travel to and not know somebody. Clifton was the nicest most generous person you could meet, he had a heart of gold, and a warm witty personality. He will be missed by many.

Clifton is survived by his Wife/Soulmate Jolene, Sons: Clifton Whitman Jr. (Jennifer) New Town, ND, Tyson Fox (Johnita) Ronan, MT Daughters: Heather Many Ribs (Benny) Parshall, ND, Miranda Silk (Jae) New Town, ND Grandchildren: Savannah Jo, Max, Amari, Jayci, Isaiah, Jayda, JoDee, Colston, Oaklynn Bree and Roycelyn. God Children Castle Ann Fox, Nycoy Fox. Sisters: Orbanna Whitman Bismarck, ND, Jaymee (Todd) Hoffer Bismarck, ND.

Preceded in Death by his Parents, Albert Whitman Sr and Jennie (Begay) Whitman. Brothers Albert Ronald Whitman, Albert Whitman Jr. and Wade Whitman. Sister: Alberta Whitman
