Cody Mossett Obituary

James Cody Mossett II, 39, of Twin Buttes, ND was called home to be with his brother, Cole Thorson Mossett on August 14, 2020.  Private family services will be held.

James Cody Mossett II was born on April 14, 1981 in North Dakota to Wanda and James “Jim” Mossett. Cody grew up and attended school in Parshall, ND and Twin Buttes, ND. During his years living in Parshall, Cody and his little brother Cole were members of the Bob Walsh Boxing Club. Cody put his heart into the sport and art of boxing. It was often said that even though Cody was a young boy, he was one of the few that had such strength and passion when he stepped into the ring. When Cody moved from Parshall to Twin Buttes, Bob made him promise to return to Parshall and fight one more fight for him. After Bob’s passing, Cody felt bad for owing him one last fight. Bob was probably waiting by that boxing ring in the sky when he heard Cody was coming home.

When Cody moved to Twin Buttes, he and Cole played basketball under the coaching of Josh Sage until he graduated from the eighth grade. As a boy, Cody and his brothers and sisters would spend hours climbing hills and swimming during the summer. In the winter, they enjoyed sledding or playing on the ice. Growing up at Mossett Bay, Cody, along with his brothers, Cole, Daniel, Clifford, Joe and Mike were fortunate to have a playground for miles as well as their very own swimming pool.

Cody loved his time with his brothers and sisters, Mike, Cole, Joe, Clifford, Daniel, Kari, Rhonda and Kandi. Unfortunately tragedy struck Cody’s young life in December 1995. His brother and best friend, Cole, left this world and took a piece of Cody with him.

Although Cody made his home in Mossett Bay, Parshall was also his home. He had his bros in Parshall and in Twin Buttes. When Cody and his P-Town Crew became adults, they were pulled over in Garrison, ND by a police officer who used to work in Parshall. He took one look in the car and said “well, well, well, if it isn’t the whole family!” Cody had a love for his bros and cherished each and every memory they shared.

Cody worked numerous jobs over the years. When he worked, he worked to his full potential. He worked for Olheiser Custom Homes, the bridge, Joe’s Casing, K&R, Kist Livestock and Bismarck Truss Company, to name a few.

In 2005, Cody settled down with Mandy Sherven and together they raised seven beautiful babies, Brandyn Wayne, James Cody “Jimmy”, Coulee Ray, Gage Dylan, Trenton Lee, Cody Marie and Hailey Rose. Cody also had an older son, Sincere Devon YellowBird, from a previous relationship. Cody loved his children so much and loved that they were all under one roof again. Cody was truly grateful for all the help and unconditional love that his mom and dad had given him and his children. Cody had two nephews that grew up right along with him and his brother. Justin and Morgan Foote looked up to their uncles and Morgan referred to Cody as his hero. Sadly, Morgan passed away in January 2017 and it weighed heavily on Cody’s mind and heart. Cody, we all know you’re happy now and your heart is happy and your soul is happy. You are finally home with your brothers and nephew.

As an adult, Cody enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was out on the water during the summer, doing a little ice fishing during the winter, or driving around during hunting season. He was always looking for “the legend”.

Up until Cody’s departure from this world, Cody was spending more time with his brothers, Mike and Joe, helping them make memories they will treasure for the rest of their lives. All who knew Cody were very familiar with that twinkle in his eye and his boyish grin. We knew something was usually brewing in that head of his.

Cody, a lot of hearts were broken the day you left this world and will probably be that way until we are all called home. Until then we will keep your memory alive so your children will never forget who their dad, Cody Mossett, was! We love you Cody and were going to miss you always.

Cody is survived by his mother and father, Jim and Wanda Mossett; brothers, Mike, Joe and Clifford Mossett; sisters, Rhonda Foote, Kari Mossett and Kandi (Loren) White; uncles, Mark, Darryl and David Fox and Clifford Mossett, Jr.; aunts, Amy Mossett, Dee Dee (Kelly) Mossett, Kathee Mossett and Marlien Mossett; his children, Zeta YellowBird, Sincere Devon YellowBird, Brandyn Wayne Sherven, James Cody “Jimmy” Mossett, Coulee Ray Mossett, Gage Dylan Mossett, Trenton Lee Mossett, Cody Marie Mossett and Hailey Rose Mossett.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Cole Thorson Mossett and Daniel Mossett; his nephew, Morgan Payne Foote; his maternal grandparents, Isaac Red Fox and Virgie Fox; his paternal grandparents, Clifford Mossett, Sr. and Celina Mossett; and his uncle, John Mossett.
