Dana Mattheis Obituary

Dana Jean Mattheis, 64, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin, ND, where she resided for the last two weeks. Services will be held on 10:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, ND with Pastor Walt Wolff officiating.  Burial will follow for Dana and Bruce in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dana was born July 11, 1960 in Williston, ND. At the age of 14 she moved to Hazen. She married Bruce on October 6, 1979. They resided in Hazen and raised their three children. Dana’s seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren were her biggest blessings and she enjoyed spending any time that she could with them, especially baking, crafting, and attending their school activities. Over the years Dana enjoyed coffee time with her friends, camping, boating, and woodworking with Bruce. There was always a cat or dog to take care of. She was fortunate to do some traveling and enjoyed her two Alaskan Cruises the most. In 2018 Dana was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was only given six months or less. She fought hard and though she was never cancer free, she was able to enjoy a few more years. After Bruce’s passing, Dana grew tired and was ready to be reunited with him.

Dana is survived by her three children, Katie (Alan) Weisz, Charmaine Stadler (Troy Gangl), and Matthew Mattheis; granddaughters, Brynn (Austin), Payton, Devin, and Cailyn; grandsons, JT, Jayden (Breanna) and Ian; great-granddaughters, Jensyn and Rylee; great-grandsons, Owen, Kaden, and Kyler; her mother, Joyce Vachal; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd “Skip” and Carol Fritsvold; sister, Denise Preston; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Mattheis, her step-father, Jim Vachal, in-laws, Edwin and Rojean Mattheis, brother, Michael Fritsvold, cousin, Charmaine Krenz, nephews, Jason Mattheis and Ayur Dorzhiyev.

The family would like to thank Marion Manor for the exceptional care of Dana for the last couple of weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bismarck Cancer Center or Coal Country Animal Rescue.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
