Darrel Rahn Obituary

Darrel J. Rahn, 84, of Hazen, ND passed away Monday, June 9, 2025. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CT on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah with Pastor Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Hazen. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Darrel John Rahn was born on February 8, 1941, to the parents of William “Bill” F. Rahn and Pauline Christina (Weigum) Rahn on the family farm south of Hazen. They eventually moved three miles north of Hazen when Darrel was eight years old with his older siblings, Leroy and Adeline. Darrel had an eighth grade education and was a hard worker until he retired, at the age of 82, at the behest of his daughter Tamara. He managed the family farm for 55 years, prior he delivered milk, worked construction, was a heavy equipment operator, and owned his own business, Darrel Rahn’s Repair. He married Martha Pamela “Pam” Bauer on July 10, 1971, and adopted Tamara Kae Rahn, at age 2. They all lived in Montana from 1970 – 1972, while he worked at Bell Manufacturing, building campers. After the family farm was sold, he worked for Sherald Geist for 15 years and retired from the Hazen golf course after 10 years of employment.

Darrel enjoyed always having a new car, riding his motorcycle and snowmobile, vacationing, fishing, gardening and canning, socializing at the local watering holes, making rounds to the businesses in town, and visiting his daughter and grandchildren.

Darrel and Pam were married for 44 years, and he was a widower of 10 years as Pam passed away February 14, 2015. He is survived by his daughter, Tamara (Jeremy) Curtis; three grandchildren, Ty Joseph Rahn, Layne Arlyn Schmidt, and Cyerra (Brock) Christina Emter; two bonus grandchildren, Brooke (20) and Jase (14) Curtis; three great grandchildren, Treyton David Kleven-Rahn (20), Avery Nicole Schmidt (10), and Ryett Douglas Emter (6 mos).

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leroy; and wife, Pam.

A special thank you to his friends Kari (and all the ladies at Jimmy’s) and Todd, his public health nurse Heidi, his aide Lorie, his home community-based services case manager Renae, Meals on Wheels, and everyone at Coal Country Community Health Center, for enhancing his quality of life and his wish to live independently on his terms.

Darrel will be buried with his favorite hat and gloves, and he will be remembered for his boisterous character and mischievous grin. Rest in peace Darrel – Brother, Uncle, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
