Dorothy L. Simenson, 99, of Zap, ND passed away Monday, August 3, 2026 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen, ND. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CT on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah with Pastor Toby Heller officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Congregational Cemetery, Zap.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CT on Monday, August 10 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.
Dorothy Frey was born on March 23, 1927 to Jacob and Eva (Berreth) Frey in Zap, ND. She met Allen Simenson at a local dance and the couple was married on December 16, 1950. They were blessed with six children, Linda, Kenneth, Richard, Larry, Russell and Calvin.
Dorothy enjoyed farm life and lived on her family farm her entire life. She liked to garden and could fix almost anything. She was an excellent cook and many of her family and friends looked forward to enjoying her lefse, borscht soup and homemade bread. Dorothy also had a knack for sewing. She was known as the “Cap Lady”, since she made and sold many welding caps over the years.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Linda Ellwein of Pick City; her sons, Kenneth (Vicki) of Abilene, KS, Richard (Aloha) of Zap, Larry (Kristi) of Bismarck, Russell of Beulah and Calvin (Camara) of Center, ND; 12 grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Theresa, Stacey, Keenan, Meagan, Mike, Alicia, Kayla, Sara, Lindsey, Dellen and RaShell; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her parents; her son-in-law, Robert Ellwein; and her siblings, Elsie (Jake) Schwabauer, Thelma (Dan) Schwabauer, Walter (Marie) Frey, Arthur Frey, Phyllis (Russell) Yates, Gilbert (Dorothy) Frey, Florence (Gordon) Brugeman, Roland (Mary Ann) Frey, Raymond (Jean) Frey and Armin Frey.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
