Dr. Roger Kennedy, 87, of Hazen, ND passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at his home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on July 13, 2024 at Riverdale Community Church, Riverdale, ND. There will be an additional service at 4:00 PM CDT on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Shiloh Christian School, Bismarck, ND.

Roger F. Kennedy, born May 11, 1937, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Omer and Ruth (Coulter) Kennedy, died at the age of 87 on June 15, 2024 at his home in Hazen, ND.  His early years were lived in a "soddy" until his family moved to a farm close to Merna, Nebraska, where he attended school, graduating in 1955.  He taught one year in a country school then on to the University of Nebraska ultimately earning his MD.

After one year of general practice in Chariton, Iowa, Dr. Kennedy began specialized training in general surgery in Des Moines followed by neurology and neurosurgery at the University of Iowa.  He then took a position with Quain and Ramstad Clinic in Bismarck, North Dakota, for a time then opened his own office.  He cared for patients in the Bismarck area for 33 years with skill and lovingkindness.

However, with all his medical accomplishments, he considered his efforts in establishing Shiloh Christian School in Bismarck the apex. He served as the first board president and helped in numerous situations.  Serving Jesus was the directive to his life.

Dr. Kennedy enjoyed life to the fullest with numerous interests including bird carving, birdwatching, flying, music (he semi-mastered the banjo), hunting, fishing and books.

He begins life anew with his son, Mark who died in 2017, and granddaughter, Sarah who died in 2010.  Those remaining with sorrow and memories are his wife of 66 years, Donna; son Craig; daughter-in-law Judy; grandson Matthew and his wife, Kayla; granddaughter Elizabeth and six great-grandchildren Konnor, Kristopher, Isaac, Charlotte, Charlie and Evelyn; and his sister Karen (Bob) Harvey of Virginia.

Thank yous are extended to the medical community in Hazen and Beulah and especially the 911 crews who responded so quickly and efficiently to several calls for help.  The police department in Hazen is TOP notchl

Memorials can be made to Shiloh Christian School or ministry of your choice.
