Duane Hartwig

Duane Hartwig, 84, of Beulah, ND died peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah with Fr. Thomas Grafsgaard officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 PM.

Duane was born on June 23, 1936 in Beulah to Phillip and Pauline (Bonnett) Hartwig. He grew up and attended school in Beulah. Duane enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in March 1956 and was honorably discharged in September 1959.

On September 3, 1960, Duane married his loving wife of 60 years, Donna Kessler at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah. Duane and Donna raised their family in Beulah.

Duane was an avid golfer and fisherman. He also spent many hours in his woodworking shop. Duane loved to attend high school sporting events. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Beulah; his children, Stacey (Mark) Grunhovd of Beulah, Mark Hartwig of Beulah, Shawn (Sarah) Hartwig of Kearney, MO, Perry (Sara) Hartwig of Fargo, ND, and Shannon (Brian) Jongeward of Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren, Cory (Audra) Grunhovd, Ashley (Dusty) Njaa, Kasey Hartwig, Emily Hartwig, Austin Lamb, Brady Jongeward and Bailey Jongeward; seven great-grandchildren, Rayelle,
Ronan, Raidyn and Lanna Hartwig, Astrid, Elin and Hendrik Grunhovd; two sisters-in-law, Eileen (Kelly) Heihn of Mandan, ND and Betty Hartwig of West Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, James; one sister, Betty (Herb) Frank; and two brothers, Bob (Donna) Hartwig and Keith Hartwig.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to SMC Hospice.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
