Duane Harold Tysver, 92, of Hazen, ND passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah, ND. Services will be held at a later date.
Duane was born on October 18, 1931 in Hazen to Harold and Charlotte (Perner) Tysver. He spent the first two years of his life in a tent in Killdeer, ND before moving back to Hazen where he attended school through the eighth grade. After his time in school, Duane spent a short time in Killdeer with a close friend breaking horses. He also worked on the Garrison Dam, building tunnels before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 19. Duane served in Bitburg, Germany, one of his favorite bases. Duane returned home and married Lucille Hornberger and the couple went on to be stationed at several bases during Duane’s time of service. They lived in Wyoming, Taiwan, North Carolina, Alaska and finally, Minot, ND. Duane retired from the service as a Master Sargent, serving from 1950 to 1971. He was very proud of his 21 years in the U.S. Air Force. Duane went on to take over the family farm in Hazen. Duane and Lucille were blessed with four children, Thomas, Ronald, Robynn and Tammy.
Duane was always a cowboy at heart, enjoying horses and farming. While living in Alaska, he obtained his pilot’s license and found a love for flying. He also like fly fishing and loved to go camping with his family.
He is survived by his son, Tom Tysver of Hazen; his daughters, Robynn Tysver of Omaha, NE and Tammy Tysver of Tucson, AZ; and his brother, Jim Tysver of Artesia, NM.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, of 54 years; his son, Ronald; his parents; and two brothers, Gerald (Judy) Tysver and Keith Tysver.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
