Edwin Boger Obituary

Edwin Joseph Boger, 65, Hazen, ND, died peacefully on September 24, 2022 in his home surrounded by family. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Friday, September 30, 2022 at St. Martin Catholic Church, Hazen with Fr. Thomas Grafsgaard officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Thursday, September 29 at St. Martin Catholic Church with vigil to follow. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan, ND at 2:00 PM on September 30.

Ed was born on March 31, 1957 to Edwin and Josephine (Voigt) Boger. He grew up the second oldest of five children in Burlington, ND. Ed was educated in Des-Lacs and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Mary and master’s degree from North Dakota State University. On July 10, 1982 he married his best friend and loving wife of 40 years, Audrey Port, at United Church of Christ in Flasher, ND. Together they created many memories raising their children, Jessica and Kyle. He taught his family how to be a selfless leader and was dedicated to supporting them in their various activities.

Ed was a beloved educator and principal who dedicated his 38-year career to students and colleagues in the communities of Almont, Stanton, Center, Stanley and Hazen. He will be remembered for his continual dedication to his students. Mr. Boger devoted much of his time serving his students through mentoring, refereeing, coaching, announcing at sporting events and sharing his passion for supporting students in any way he could. His exceptional commitment to the field of education earned him the recognition of North Dakota Principal of the Year, president of the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Milken Educator Award in 1995.

Ed served the community in many different ways as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in Center, an active member of the Hazen Chamber of Commerce, Hazen Sportsman’s Club, church council at St. Martin Catholic Church and board member of the Knife River Care Center.

Ed’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. His children and their families were a great source of pride for him. Ed enjoyed every moment he had with his precious granddaughters for the past eight years. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, camp, play pinochle and share his love for the outdoors. Many priceless memories were made with friends and family on fishing trips to Lake Sakakawea chasing the elusive eight-pound walleye.

His strong faith carried him through life and set a great example for his family. Ed was admired for his positive outlook and one-liners to lighten any mood. With faith, patience, hope and compassion he impacted countless lives and will be missed beyond measure.

Ed is survived by his wife Audrey; children, Jessica (Kyle) Gregerson, Valley City, ND, Kyle (Megan) Boger, Mandan, ND; grandchildren Leah and Anna Gregerson, Brynlee and Addison Boger; brother Charles (Judy) Boger; sisters Julene Boger, Patricia (Harold) Voigt, Mary Jo (Marshal) Clarys, sisters-in-law Charlotte Archambault, Sharon (Chuck) Curtiss, Hattie (Jeff) Kellerman, numerous nieces and nephews, and stepmother Shirley Boger.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Josephine (Voigt) Boger; in-laws Don and Patricia (Wright) Port and stepmothers-in-law Wilma and Edith Port.

The Boger family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Kurniali, Dr. Lambrecht, Dr. Al Rabadi, and nurses for providing Ed with such loving care.
