Eleanor L (Martin) Flemmer

Eleanor Flemmer, 87, of Beulah, ND passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Beulah Congregational Church, Beulah with Pastor Frank Sapp officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, December 13 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Eleanor L. Flemmer was born October 4, 1932 to Fred F. and Eva (Opp) Martin. She attended farm schools north of Hebron ND, graduated from Hebron High School, and earned a teaching certificate from Dickinson College.  Eleanor taught at one-room schoolhouses for four years until she met and married the love of her life, Wilbert Flemmer.  Wilbert and Eleanor were married on August 22, 1954 at the Hebron Congregational Church. Together they farmed south of Beulah and raised two daughters and one son.

Eleanor was quick to share her gift of hospitality with family, friends, and new acquaintances. She was a member of the Beulah Congregational Church and active in the women’s Friendly Circle and Christian Caregivers. She enjoyed gardening, maintaining an impeccable yard and home, crocheting, cooking and baking.  In her later years, Grandma Eleanor shared her secrets for removing stains and creating from scratch a perfect angel food cake and German dishes, like strudla and knoephla soup, with her granddaughters.

Eleanor is survived by son, Ryan Flemmer, Beulah ND; daughter, Sheila and son-in-law Steve Hildebrand, Hazen ND; and daughter, Fayette and son-in-law Robert Coté, Otsego, MN. She is survived by grandchildren, Sarah Hildebrand, Nathaniel (Kelly) Coté, Jennifer (Benjamin) Sackett, Jeremiah (Alyssa) Coté, and Nicaela (David) Pangborn and great-grandsons Neil, Nicholas, Oakley, Wyatt, Everett, and Sawyer. She is also survived by her siblings, Delores (Elmer) Huber, Harvey (Trudy) Martin, Diana Norwood, and Gary (Rosemary) Martin and numerous nieces and nephews from both her and Wilbert’s families.

 Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Flemmer, her parents, and two siblings, Lorine (six months) and Melvin (seven years).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Beulah Congregational Church or an organization of your choice.
