Eleanor Scharosch Obituary

Eleanor (Morast) (Schlender) Scharosch, 96, of Hazen, North Dakota, died peacefully on March 15, 2019 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Kirk Peters officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Eleanor was born on September 22, 1922 on the family farm north of Beulah to Julianna (Hoffman) and Ursus Morast. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Peace Lutheran Church, north of Beulah. She graduated from the eighth grade at the local country school. As a young woman, Eleanor worked on the family farm and also at the Henry Schlender farm, north of Golden Valley. It was there that she met Art Schlender, who lived nearby on his parents’ farm. They fell in love quickly and were married on December 26, 1944. Art and Eleanor farmed on the family farm north of Golden Valley, then traveled around to work various construction jobs. The couple moved to Bismarck where Art continued to work construction and Eleanor cleaned houses. The families she served appreciated her excellent work and became good friends. Eleanor and Art eventually moved to Hazen and became members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Art passed away in 1982.

Eleanor loved to dance. At a local dance, she met Frank Scharosch and the two became good friends and dance partners. They were married on November 4, 1995 and lived in Hazen for many years. Frank and Eleanor eventually moved out of their home and into Senior Suites and later Knife River Care Center. Frank passed away in 2016.

Eleanor is survived by her sister, Edna Neuberger of Hazen; her brother, Walter Morast of Zap; two sisters-in-law, Janet Morast of Beulah and Darlene Morast of Beulah; Frank’s children; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; her husband, Frank; five brothers, Friedabert, Albert, Ervin, Ernest and Melvin; and one sister, Luella Langmack.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
